Northern Health School Board of Trustees
As with all New Zealand State schools, the Northern Health School Board of trustees has a three year term of office, which expires in 2010. However unlike most Boards, the NHS board is appointed by the Minister of Education. Expressions of interest were sought through notices in the major daily newspapers and five trustees have been appointed (see below).
Richard Abel Chairman My professional life has been in education, initially working at Primary and Intermediate level before moving into the Secondary sector for the latter portion of my career. My last position in a school was as Principal of Kamo High School, finishing in 2006 after 15 years in that role. Since then I have been involved in a variety of work connected with education, including as a facilitator for TEAM Solutions, contract work for the Ministry of Education, and some private contract work in areas such as Principal Appraisal.
Jerome Cudmore I have a background in secondary education and many years in human resources and training in the private sector. I am currently Human Resources Manager at Electrix, a well-known electrical contracting company. I have had a personal association with the school prior to my board membership as my daughter attended the school for six months in 2003, while undergoing chemotherapy for leukaemia at Starship Hospital.
Heather Moore My professional qualifications are that of both Nurse and Educator. I have held a variety of roles within both Nursing and Education and currently I am the Director of Programme Delivery at North Tec in Whangarei..
Empowerment of others, through education, has been the basis of my postgraduate studies and has underpinned my work as nurse, educator and manager throughout a career that has spanned a number of South Pacific countries. Of particular interest to me is the concept of health promotion and health education as it occurs within a community context
Maxine MoanaTuwhangai I was appointed to the Northern Health School Board in 2007 and am currently serving my second term. As a chartered accountant I’ve worked in a variety of sectors, including education, and previously served a term on the Counties Manukau District Health Board. I’m also a board member of Te Arataura, Waikato Tainui’s executive board, and a recently accredited Environmental Commissioner. Our home is in Ngaruawahia in the Waikato.
Richard Winder - Principal I come from a primary teaching background, with a strong interest in literacy and numeracy and the use of technology in education. I have worked at a variety of schools, mainly in Auckland and at the Northern Health school since 2001. I see the Northern Health School as a unique school with some exciting opportunities to work with students in a varety of interesting and innovative ways, to make a difference for students.
Jillian Holland - staff trustee I am a Wellingtonian and lived in Upper Hutt until after my training when I came to Auckland. I have been teaching, at many different levels, since 1974, with a break in the middle to raise three children. Special needs, in particular physically disabled children, interested me, and most of my career has been spent working with these children, with a couple of stints in mainstream classrooms. I applied for a position with the Northern Health School in 2002 and began at Kidz First, migrating to the Community Education Service at Regional House and settling in there, which is my current permanent position. Deciding to upgrade my teaching diploma to a degree, I spent two years studying part time to achieve this and will add another dimension to my career with this new experience as a trustee on the board.
